The New Year is upon us. It is time to throw out or file away an old calendar and start fresh with a new one. There are things that we automatically place on the calendar. There are the dates that are printed or imported into calendars each year, they are the traditional holidays. Then there are the dates we add. These include birthdays and anniversaries. Then if you think about church there are the important dates in the Christian year, like Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter, Christmas Eve, All Saints Day, etc. Perhaps then you think about time to be away for vacation or if you are retired, special trips.
As you work on all of those dates, it doesn’t take long for the calendar to begin to fill up. It is important to plan because if you don’t others will control your calendar. It is important to begin the year thinking about the things you want to do in this new year. Set those dates aside and make plans to accomplish your desires. There will no doubt be some things that interrupt those plans, but to the best of your ability, see that the things you want to do in 2018 come to fruition.
I do hope that as you plan your calendar, you will take into account the church calendar. Be a part of the things that are meaningful to you. No one can do it all, no one expects you to. Be a part of the things that are important to you. The most important thing is to make Christ an important part of your living in 2018.
