About Us

Welcome to the Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church website. It is our desire for you to look around this site and see all of the good ministries that our church is involved in. It is the desire of this congregation that you not only look us over here on the web, but that you come to Carlisle Avenue to see our ministry and feel our heart beat.

The church is the result of the merger of the Raleigh Forbes Memorial Baptist Church and the Montrose Baptist Church on July 12, 1987. This was a significant move to provide a strong, effective witness in the east end of Richmond.

Our church is affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of Virginia and the Richmond Baptist Association.

Carlisle Avenue called Howard Germany to be our pastor in May of 2005 and he began his ministry here on June 19, 2005 . Mr. Germany and his wife Lee are very happy to share their gifts with our congregation and with those touched by the congregation. The church family is a warm and loving group who knows Jesus Christ and loves all of His children.

Prior to coming to Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church, Mr. Germany served as pastor of a mission congregation in Ohio and a church in Wilkes County, Georgia. While at Rehoboth Baptist Church, he met his wife and they were married at First Baptist Church in Washington, GA., where she served as the Director of Children and Youth.

Following the wedding, he served the Georgia Association, made up of 50 churches, as their Director of Missions for five years. Following their time in Washington, GA , they moved to Rome , GA where he served the Floyd County Baptist Association for 13.5 years. We are thankful that God led him back to the local church and to Carlisle Avenue Baptist Church in particular.
